Guided tours in the Big CanoeWould you enjoy drifting past the majestic cliffs with a crew of modern voyageurs? You and your family or friends can experience the South Saskatchewan River together while paddling stable ten-passenger canoes. These evening trips begin in Echo Dale Regional Park and end two hours later at Strathcona Island Park, as the cliffs glow golden in the sunset.On Saturdays, a full day adventure explores 35 km of the scenic valley upstream of Echo Dale. For all these trips, a shuttle bus picks up passengers at the Gas City Campground and major hotels. Bookings are essential, as seating is limited to 18 adventurers. |

Paddle On Your OwnWould you like to paddle your own canoe? It is not hard, and our staff can give you pointers. Echo Dale Boating Lake is a great place to practice, and the gentle South Saskatchewan River makes a good first venture on open water.Redrock Voyageur Ltd. provides all you need for an enjoyable time on the water. Canoes can be rented for $10 per hour, or $30 per day. Paddles, PFDs and other safety equipment are included. Our staff can provide advice, and guidebooks for the river are available. The Echo Dale Boat House is open 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays; and 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. EcotoursExperience the prairie as you have never seen it before. Our guides can share their vast experience with your group, leading you to fascinating vistas not available to the public.Topics for the tours can include archaeology, birds, wildflowers or a more general prairie hike. This is a great chance to take your friends or relatives to the sandhills or Red Rock Coulee, while traveling in a sociable group. Operating SeasonRedrock Voyageur Ltd. will provide voyageur canoe tours and full-day canoe rentals from early May to Thanksgiving. The Echo Dale Regional Park outlet will provide hourly rentals from the Victoria Day weekend to the Labour Day weekend. Check this website for periodic special events, including lessons, informal practices, and guest instructors.Safety and Risk ManagementRedrock Voyageur Ltd. has clear and consistent safety practices. Whether the programs are presented by staff, contractors, partner companies or volunteers, all activities are managed to ensure safety for the clients.Staff TrainingAll staff and boats meet requirements of the Canadian Coast Guard regulations. This means that all canoes are rented with safety equipment included. All persons in command of the voyageur canoes have the Small Craft Certification and Standard First Aid (or better) as well as a voyageur canoe course. All canoe instructors hold Paddle Canada's Waterfront Canoe Instructor certificate. Staff driving passengers on the bus have a Class 4 license.We're green!You can't get more environmentally friendly than self-propelled recreation.But in addition, our staff participate in many community and environmental roles. We sit on the board of both the South East Alberta Watershed Alliance and Paddle Alberta. Our company participates in shoreline cleanups and other green projects. We subscribe to the Tourism Industry Association of Canada's Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism. And right here at home, every trip leaves our river a bit cleaner, as we remove accumulated litter. |
